A Beacon of Communications

Located on the campus of Cox Communications, the Cox Heritage Center celebrates the history, successes, and values of the family, group of companies, and employees that constitute Cox Enterprises, a leading communications, media and automotive services company. Intended to inspire employees, partners, and community members, the interactive exhibits highlight the history of Cox and the company’s future.

The center transforms the company history into a gathering place, featuring an entry framed by large beacons, with abstract animations filling the open space. Interactive architectural forms respond to visitor’s presence and motion, revealing layers of information as the exhibits are explored. Visitors can choose content divided into five distinct eras, displayed on 10-inch interactive touch screens. Each era describes Cox’s impact across the globe and key moments in the company’s history. Exhibits are enhanced with projections, videos, computer interactives, and audio soundscapes.

Structural Supports and Custom Scaffolding

kubik maltbie provided fabrication services that included coordination and installation. The beacons built and installed on site were of critical importance to the design. When activated, these upright beacons change color and provide interactive content displays. Integration of structural support within the building was required to sustain the over 40 foot, two-by-two aluminum beacon structures. A rigger and custom scaffolding were created to successfully install the beacons, along with other key structures that contribute to the distinct identity of the space. Execution of static and animated graphic panels, murals, graphic rails, platforms, built structures, artifact cases, theatrical exhibit lighting, and multimedia experiences completed the holistic interactive environment.
