Customized to Kids

kubik matbie was fundamental in the creation of 5 of the 7 galleries in the new Royal Alberta Museum. Each gallery holds unique notable features and required its own specialized approach. Designed for kids eight years old and younger, the Children’s Space offers kids a hands-on learning space and is home to all kinds of fun activities, including an interactive dig pit and a theatre. Curiosity and active engagement lead children on a journey of discovery – making connections to the museum’s collections, and their own sense of wonder, uncovering the past in the Dig Pit, exploring motion with the Big Machine or creating a symphony of sound. Children can engage in free play, self-discovery, and authentic exploration with real objects, tools, and materials.

Leafy Canopies and Flying Cars

kubik matbie provided design/build services for the gallery including Project Management, Construction Management, base-building integration, permitting and code consultancy and custom Showcase Work. All exhibits including custom scenic, floor-to-ceiling murals and shimmer mountain scape walls were a part of the interactives and fabrication and installation on the project. In addition, the project included production and installation of over 4,000 graphics. Custom mount installation involved a suspended leaf canopy, and a wall mounted full-size Volkswagen Bug.
